ATD CHATTANOOGA AREA CHAPTER

2ND QUARTER NEWSLETTER

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

One thing is for sure: the last couple of months has been like nothing most of us have ever experienced. The words “pivot” and “unprecedented” are now cemented in many of our minds. The resilience and general willingness to continue on by the talent development professionals I encounter is inspiring.

During the last several weeks, ATD Chattanooga purposely stood in the background as our Chapter leadership reassessed how to best serve the needs of our membership and communities. Early on, we decided to provide our members and leadership the space necessary to regroup while serving our organizations and of course, our families.

As we transition into a sort of “new normal”, we wanted to share what we are doing as a Chapter to support the Greater Chattanooga Area Talent Development professionals. We are transitioning many of our events for 2020 to a virtual format. Next week, we host our first Chapter sponsored virtual event. We are excited that we are able to partner with Take Flight Learning for this event.

In late May, we will host our first virtual social networking event; more details on that soon. In June, we have two events scheduled. Our regular monthly Lunch N Learn is a virtual event in partnership with Root, Inc. We will have interactive breakout sessions in virtual rooms. We also have a second virtual event with Jeffrey Berk, COO of Performitiv, sharing on “How to Show Evidence of Learning Impact”.  ****CLICK THE LINKS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THESE EVENTS

We are excited about the above events and the programming for the rest of the year. For more information, please be sure to visit www.atdchatt.org.

In the meantime, please reach out to me directly with your input on how we may best serve you during this time. I am looking forward to it!

Stay safe!

“I have seen the importance of volunteering for years. I have volunteered with the National Park Service, Georgia State Parks, Habitat for Humanity and my church. ATD has been a great benefit to me, so it was natural that I would want to volunteer my time here as well. As Director of Operations, I have used much of the information that I have heard from ATD to increase my abilities to be a better leader. I look forward to this year of learning and serving where I can within the Chattanooga Chapter.”

“Since joining the Chattanooga Area Chapter of the ATD, I’ve been honored to assist the chapter in a few small ways. From working with the membership committee to assisting with post-event surveys, volunteering with the chapter offers me the opportunity to expand my network, further my professional development, and associate with the vibrant Chattanooga area training community.”

"I have found volunteering to be rewarding and exhilarating at the same time.  I have served the ATD Chattanooga chapter for many years in various capacities from the lowest to highest level.  Each position in this organization will allow you the opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills and open many doors that only you can imagine.  I have benefited by being part of this organization and it has grown my business, given me the contacts and resources needed to help me grow personally and professionally.  I encourage and challenge our members to step out of your comfort zone and join us by volunteering.  Make an investment in yourselves and the chapter."

Interested in volunteering on a specific project? We have an opportunity for 2-3 volunteers to assist in the yearly Financial Review for the Chapter. Volunteers must be members in good standing. It is a great hands-on opportunity for a behind the scenes look at our Chapter finances. The total time commitment including meetings is around 5 hours. Interested?

Please contact Maddie Hollis, Chapter President.

April 2020: Mobile SHRM / Chattanooga ATD Partnership

The Mobile, AL SHRM chapter recently extended an invitation to members of the Chattanooga Area ATD chapter to attend their virtual April chapter meeting. The timely topic, “Planning for the Post-Pandemic Workplace: Key Factors HR Needs to Consider Now,” was presented by Mary Gormandy White of MTI Business Solutions, who is a member of both organizations. Offered free of charge, the program was scheduled as a service to HR and talent development professionals who, like so many business leaders, are focusing on helping their organizations figure out how to navigate toward the “new normal” for the workplace, whatever that may look like as circumstances evolve.

Approximately 8 Chattanooga Area ATD chapter members and 11 Guests from our contact list took advantage of this opportunity. Mobile SHRM’s chapter president, Susie Jones of Sirius Technical Services, warmly welcomed our chapter’s members at the beginning of the session as special guests. Being able to connect, network, and learn with like-minded professionals in other geographic areas is one of the positives of transitioning some professional meetings online. We hope there will be more opportunities to connect in the future!
